Prior to working in Holistic Health, I had worked as an Occupational Therapist in one of Boston's biggest hospitals. I specialized in rehabilitating people after surgery and significant upper extremity trauma. My role as a therapist, was primarily to treat their physical limitations, but also to guide, teach and retrain patients how to return to their daily lives after having their injury. I always had so much gratitude for being able to have such a positive impact on someones healing process. This work has given me the insight and foundation of understanding both Eastern and Western Medicine which has helped me guide my clients through their healing process and transitions.
After 12 years of watching clients struggle through healing from their injuries, I started to become more inquisitive to the mind/body connection. It was during this time that I enrolled at the Institue of Integrative Nutrition to become a Holistic Health Coach. The world of holistic health quickly stole my focus and before long I was learning about how the body truly heals and the intimate connecntion between emotional and physical health. I began working with and learning alongside some amazing healers, and through this experience, I knew that there was a deeper, more profound way I could help people reach their health goals.
I’ve been there too…
In 2012 I became pregnant with my son and just as pregnancy hit, so did a slew of unexplained health issues (untypical to pregnancy) that forced me to be out of work and even limited my function in my daily life. I spent many visits to doctors, specialists, you name it... I was there. No one could figure what was going on and no one particular test could accurately 'diagnose' me. Every doctor heard my symptoms but there was no diagnostic test to prove it, so as a result I kept getting the same label...migraines and anxiety. Intuitively I knew this was not the real answer and that there was a deeper root to all this... and I was right. I spent almost 3 years traveling my way through nutritionists, holistic practitioners and energy healers. Though some suggestions helped, it seemed as though everyone had a different frame of thought and it became confusing trying to understand which theory to trust.
In the midst of this healing journey, I became surrounded by the overwhelm with learning of my sons multiple food allergies and sensitivities. Wether it was trialling through foods, daily meal preparations, or planning for a day outside of 'our safe environment', it seemed as though each day brought a new challenge. I felt constantly bombarded by the stress of trying to figure it all out and at the same time I could barely keep my head above water. I spent hours every day educating myself and enrolling in courses on gut health, the immune system and a multitude of traditional and non-traditional healing modalities. There were so many theories out there and though we tried most of them, again it was exhausting trying to decide what to put our energy and trust into. Mostly what I found was the significant lack of support available for moms and families trying to navigate their way through the food allergy world and all the daily stress that it came with. Though it was an overwhelming process finding our own way through it all, In hindsight, this self-navigation process has been my greatest gift as I am now able to support and educate other families through their personal journey.
Things started to shift…
What I didn't understand at the time was that I was missing a bigger piece of the puzzle. How we feel and the health of our bodies does not solely depend on the foods we eat or how much we exercise. What feeds us and nourishes us just as much (if not more) are all those other areas in our life that make us who we are and create our emotional well-being. What I quickly realized was that behind every physical issue, was an emotional resonance. I began working with an Emotion Code and Emotional Release Practitioners. Slowly we peeled back the layers and I started to see great shifts.
Shortly after this time, I found two practitioners who utilized the work of Energy Medicine and A.R.T. Allergy Release Technique®. Through these modalities, I began clearing and releasing the physical burdens within my immune, hormonal and digestive system. Week after week, I slowly began seeing shifts in my energy and overall wellbeing. This work has been so profound in my life and for my son, that I knew I had to learn it. As life would have it, I was given the opportunity to study these modalities and now I am able to provide these incredible healing tools to my clients. I soon realized that it was about the journey and the destination, for without this journey, my destination would be meaningless.
